The Fiskerton Tragedy of 1864
The Fiskerton Tragedy of 1864
News of the Times Episode 433 | 1864
In today’s episode, it is 1864 Fiskerton - some 14 miles from Nottingham.
The community is rocked with the news that Thomas Parker has attempted to murder his aged parents. Parker has long garnered a reputation in the community of being an indulged spoiled man-child. Although the village is shocked, it is not necessarily completely surprised.
The murder attempt against his mother is successful. The rifle shot hit her in the face, tore through an eye, and shot through the top of her head, essentially scalping her. She lingers, proclaiming how it was an accident on the part of her beloved son, and then dies. The father, despite the multiple wounds inflicted by the rifle across his face and chest, survives.
We take a look at this remarkable parent murder which brought a crowd of over 10,000 to witness his execution. The case is also noted as being the last public execution to take place in Nottingham.
For those who like the peculiar, today’s further particulars story is an odd one involving the ingestion of green lizards and how to get them out of one’s body. Warning to all those who fall asleep with their mouths open in the great outdoors!
